Proud to be Sri Lanka’s most trusted hospital for compassionate and quality healthcare

Our radiology department offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging services using digital X-ray systems that reduce radiation exposure by 50-70% compared to conventional film-based X-rays. We have three dedicated X-ray rooms: a general radiography room for chest, abdomen, spine, and extremity imaging; a fluoroscopy suite for dynamic studies (barium swallows, enemas, joint injections); and a mobile X-ray unit for bedside imaging of ICU patients or those unable to travel. Our equipment includes direct digital radiography (DR) with 100-micron resolution - capable of detecting fractures as fine as hairline cracks, early pneumonia, and calcifications smaller than 1mm. All images are available on our PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) within 60 seconds, instantly accessible to your doctor anywhere in the hospital or via secure remote login. We perform over 25 types of X-ray examinations including dental panoramic views (OPG), mammography (breast imaging), DEXA scans (bone density for osteoporosis), and IVU (intravenous urography for kidney stones).
What sets our radiology apart is our obsessive focus on radiation safety and diagnostic precision. We follow ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles - using automatic exposure control and copper filters that adjust radiation dose based on patient size. Our X-ray machines undergo regular quality assurance checks. For pregnant patients, we enforce strict protocols - we never X-ray the abdomen or pelvis without obstetrician approval, and we always apply lead shielding. Our radiologists are highly qualified specialists, and all studies are double-read: the technologist's preliminary read, then a radiologist's final report. We use AI-assisted detection software that highlights suspicious areas for human review. Outpatient X-ray wait times are kept to a minimum.
Before your X-ray: Remove all metal objects including jewelry, belts, glasses, dentures, and bras with underwires. For abdominal X-rays, you may need to fast briefly to reduce bowel gas interference. For mammograms, schedule at an optimal time in your cycle when breasts are least tender. Pregnant women must inform staff immediately - we will postpone non-emergency X-rays until after delivery. Results are delivered digitally via our patient portal. Bring all previous X-rays - comparing old and new studies dramatically improves diagnostic accuracy. For patients needing fluoroscopy, we offer audio headphones and sedation options if needed.
